Best of Shnit at George Arts Theatre on May 16

The Cape Film Commission is pleased to announce a special screening of the best of the Shnit International Short-film Festival at the George Arts Theatre in York Street, George, Western Cape on Saturday 16 May 2015. The screening has been made possible through the generous support of the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund and George Municipality.

The Shnit International Shortfilmfestival was founded in 2003 in Bern, Switzerland and takes place annually in mid-October over 10 cities around the world including Bern, Cologne, Vienna and Cape Town.  Shnit 2014 was held in Cape Town from 8 – 12 October 2014.  More than 7000 short films from all continents are annually submitted to the festival’s selection process, nearly 100 of those South African entries.

The screenings will highlight the variety and scope of what constitutes a short film and will be screened in two one hour sessions between 7pm and 9:30pm.

The George Arts Theatre will play host to this event which will also serve as a test event for both the venue and the technical capabilities of George based service providers in preparation for the planned Eden Independent Film Festival later in 2015. This larger festival is being developed by the Cape Film Commission in conjunction with the Eden District and its’ municipalities, the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund and the local film industry.

The Shnit film event and workshops is the next step in the George Municipality’s ongoing support for the film industry and the strengthening working relationship with the Cape Film Commission.

The screening will take place on Saturday evening and will be preceded by several film industry workshops, with various speakers on specific film industry topics.  The workshops and event can be attended by all persons that have attended the recent George/Eden film industry workshop events.

Limited seating will be available for the general membership of the CFC on a first come, first served basis.  Should you be interested in attending the workshops and/or the screenings, please email  no later than close of business on Friday 8 May 2015, after which time no applications will be considered. A maximum of 2 tickets per person will be allocated.
